Truthfully, I was expecting a lot less when I received this antenna. Upon reading some of the reviews, my expectations were lowered a bit.
However, I have to say this is better than I expected. I first plugged the antenna in w/o the amplifier to see what channels I could get, and got all of the “necessary” ones (ABC/NBC/CBS/Fox, etc)…and then some. The only noticeably absent one was PBS. After using the amplifier, PBS came in clear as a bell (3 channels in Charlotte, NC for PBS). In total I receive 15 channels with most of those with a very good picture. The HD is outstanding. Dare I say you can’t tell a difference between cable/satellite and antenna, in terms of picture quality.
It is about the size of a 8 1/2 X 11′ sheet of paper and about 1/2″ thick. Very light. In terms of parts, there is nothing to it, outside of a metal bar for propping and the amplifier.
The design of the antenna is good. The flat design works out well in my house. My “entertainment” center in the family room is on the southeast part of the house, with a window behind the center (I know, strange). That actually plays to the advantage of the antenna as I am able to lay the antenna flat on the top of the entertainment center. Barely noticeable. Not your grandpa’s antenna.
The setup is as simple as plugging the coax into the tv, scan channels, voila…but you may need to play around with the antenna a little bit to get the maximum signal.
If you are looking to move away from cable/satellite TV, don’t need hundreds of channels to survive but don’t want to give up the HD picture, this may be the way to go.
Note, a good supplement for an HD antenna is a netflix subscription. To take it to the next level, stream Hulu and other channels from your computer to the TV (various means of doing so).

I bought this antenna for its aesthetics. I found the shape of it very convenient and, well, beautiful. Since machines so often don’t work well and take up more and more of our time as we serve their needs, why not at least have something that looks good? I was able to follow its instructions without frustration, and it did its job scanning and memorizing channels without hurting me. Will it please everyone? I doubt it, but I do live in an area with problem reception and have no complaints in that regard. I honestly can’t think of anything negative to say about this particular plastic and silicon divinity.

I waited until the furor died down then purchased the Analog TV Converter with remote. It was easily installed and I’m so pleased with its features. I had no idea that some of the regular channels had more than one channel. For instance I now have NBC Channel 1 and Channel 2. I have three channels for CBS. The only thing I dislike is this little box that continues to pop up advising me that my antenna isn’t strong enough and that I need to call a certain number to get a sronger antenna. It’s annoying to have it popping up like that. Other than that, I love this product.

Top notch reviews were on brands like Insignia, Channel Master. This one, Magnavox, a brand I am familiar had the basic gripes of (a)needing an antenna (I thought all converters needed one?), (b)no controls on the box – need to use the remote ; there were, however, no complaints about the channels pulled in, reception, etc – So I went to Wallyworld, and saw stacks of this Magnavox brand. I had the two discount coupons, so I said what the heck. I also got a Phillips HDTV Antenna (model SDV2740/27). Steps: (a) Got an old pair of RCA Jacks with the yellow, white and red, (2) hooked the RCA jacks between the Magnavox output and my TV video/audio inputs(matched the colors:-), (b) Hooked the provided BNC (one that looks like a cable wire) from the antenna output to the Magnavox Antenna input, (c) Powered off everything (antenna, converter box, TV), set my TV to video mode, (d) turned on the converter box using the remote control, and started changing the channels, and voila, HDTV channels. I’m pulling in 44 channels. Should get more channels after this Friday’s cutoff.

Retail stores have very few choices of DTV converter boxes now. So I bought this one online based on a few reviews although I hadn’t heard about this brand before. It’s easy to operate without the need to first look up the mannual. It’s working well since I bought it. The “signal” button helps a lot in tuning the antenna. The only thing I don’t like is its very bright red LED when turned off. I have to put a semi-transparent cover over it to make it less flashing in the darkness.

I was looking for an antenna that would keep me from having to go to cable after the transition to digital. I tried several antennas, including one that was amplified. This Terk TV-1, together with a converter box, was better than all the rest. Don’t be fooled by the hipe of “HDTV Antennas”. Also, although it may be sent with a UHF loop, you don’t need it. I get channels 21,25 41,45 & 68 just with the antenna as pictured without any loop. I live in Nassau County on Long Island, NY. Unfortunately this antenna has been discontinued and probably will be difficult to obtain. After I bought my fist one, I tried several vendors thru Amazon who initially stated that it was “in stock”, came back with “no longer stocked”. I was fortunately able to get one thru amazon, by continuing to search for it over several months. If you’re lucky enough to find one, buy it, you won’t be disapointed.
